Giving up smoking is the easy part. sticking to your quit, now that's the hard part.
Most people only talk about quitting but they never actually attempt it when was the last time you tried to quit and failed?A week ago, a month, a year... .or of perhaps you don ' t even remember.
Here is a famous quote from Thomas Edison:
If you are serious about quitting then you got to keep trying.
Quit... .fail... learn... adapt... .quit... ..fail … .learn... .adapt... .quit... fail... .and on and on until it works out for you. A permanently quit.
Can you relate to this sequence of events (if you have ever tried quitting you should):
Smoking a cigarette and out of the blue you think
"ok this is going to be my last pack".
Smoke... smoke... just to get smoke rid of them... so you can quit. You feel motivated.
Now you looking down at the last cigarette in the pack...
"This is my last cigarette, I ' ve got to be prepared." "In going to it and enjoy smoke it".
Then whilst dragging on that last cigarette' you begin doubting yourself.... "Am I really prepared to quit".
Who cares I'm going to try. Then it happens its over, you just enjoyed your last cigarette'.
By slowly, you think of smoking time passes but you know you just quit. So you avoid thinking about it you begin doing things to stay occupied.Pass A few hours since that last cigarette. Now the craving hits, you really want one badly but again you stick with your decision "I just quit no going back".
You smoke go meet up with a friend and they. They light up... .that smell of burning tobacco... it's sooo good! You can almost smell the nicotine burning, it makes you want to light up as well. You try your best to say no, its been almost eight + hours since you last smoked.Things are getting over whelming, the cravings are stronger, the temptations are higher... ..you can ' t take it nevertheless you try to stick with your decision.
Smoke after the smell is smoke getting to you so you leave. At home you start to feel depressed, you really want one. You think of the way your friend what smoking.You think of all things cigarettes, tobacco, nicotine and smoke and so you give in.
You buy a new pack and light up... .Aaaaaahh its all over, the madness it's all over. You might as well just give up on the thought of quitting.Smoking is so much easier.
It took me three and a half years of going through the above process. I would quit, then fail.Smoke for two weeks.. Quit and fail.Smoke for another five or six and then quit again. Each quit, I would last a little longer than the previous.At the start it a few days, then it grew to maybe 2 or 3 weeks without cigarettes before falling victim to the smokes again.
I constantly had the thought of quitting in mind.The seed had been planted.Now it was just a matter of time before it grew to take effect.Never back gave up on it after every set, with every smoke, with every packet I would constantly be thinking, "I have to quit, I have to quit".Sometimes for months.
By the third year I had lasted for eight months without smoking, everyone thought I quit.Then I failed again.But this time I was more confident.I knew the one smoke what not going to harm me, at least not compared to the way when I used to smoke to entire pack a day.
After those eight months of quitting, I ended up smoking 9 cigarettes during the course of the one month.I what much well off than anyone I knew, but I had to make it permanent.And that what my last quit, its been more than 4 years now.I am not even counting anymore.
The real secret, if that's what you want to call it, is to try again, fail, try fail, again and again and repeat this process again and again.If it helps keep a journal and record the progress you make and keep a track of the things that made you fall back to smoking, only so you can avoid it later.
